Best Eats: Melbourne, Australia

Let’s go back and give Melbourne, Australia another shout out for being a place of amazing food. In this post, I will introduce you to some of my favorite eats that I encountered on my trip.

Queen Victoria Market Food Court: 3 Entries

Bratwurst Shop & Co :

If your head isn’t spinning from the endless options at the market then your not human. Other then the clothing at Queen Victoria Market, the food section is one of the best I’ve seen. Ranging from cheese, cold cuts, wine, and bread there is something for every palate. My friend recommended that I try a bratwurst, I never turn down a brat. Being the guy that I am I had to try two types: Chorizo, and the Spicy. Both I topped with cheese and sauerkraut. FYI, there are many brat shops here……go to this one.

The Borek Shop:

If the bratwurst didn’t fill you up, your in luck. Right next door to the Bratwurst Shop you’ll fine the Borek Shop. If you don’t know what a Borek is, this is the right place to be a first timer. A Borek is a delicious pastry filled snack, that come in many different stuffing’s like : cheese, lamb, Spanish, and chicken. I ordered  the spicy lamb, in which came hot out of the oven. These little pockets of goodness sell out very quickly, so be ready for long lines and waiting on a fresh batch.  Definitely worth the wait.

The American Doughnut Kitchen:

The American Doughnut Kitchen is a great ending from a day at the market. Parked right to the market, this kitchen serves up hot and fresh doughnuts. These doughnuts are filled with hot raspberry filling and tossed in sugar. If you haven’t had hot doughnuts this is the right place for them. The price isn’t to bad either.

The Merrywell Restaurant & Bar:

I love the Merrywell Burger Bar, and I’ll tell you why: Chicken and Beef together! Once I seen the ” Creation” on the menu I knew it was for me. This huge clunker of a burger comes with a beef patty and a buttermilk batter chicken breast. I haven’t seen this type of burger in a long time; not many restaurants do this type, which is sad. I kept calling this burger the ” Moo and Cluck”, just for fun.The burger it’s self is huge, I had no complaints. While walking along the Yarra, or waiting for the fire display outside, this burger bar is the right place to come.

Union Hotel

One word……PARMA! My Aussie friends put me on to the Union Hotel saying it has the best parma in town. I knew i couldn’t leave the country without trying one, so I dove into something amazing. This enormous crusted chicken breast came topped with ham and melted cheese; with a side salad and fries.  When I tell you I died and gone to Heaven, I did. Order your Union Chicken Parma, the next time your in Melbourne. Iv’e also added the fish of the day which was sea bass, very good choice as well.

Souvlaki GR

The last entry goes to Souvlaki GR for their authentic Greek food. Souvlaki GR didn’t disappoint, when I wanted to try a slew of Greek favorites.  I ordered a Souvlaki, Loukanika ( Greek sausage) , and pan seared Saganaki ( Greek cheese) . This place was soo good that I had to order ones to go. Check this place out.
